Teaching i* Alongside a Contrasting Modeling Framework
نویسندگان
چکیده
We briefly describe the design of a course on “Systems Analysis and Process Innovation”, focusing especially on its project assignments. Students are introduced to process modeling and data modeling, followed by i* and Value Network modeling. In their project assignments, students apply these modeling techniques to real organizational settings to analyze an as-is situation and to explore to-be alternatives. A distinctive feature in the design of the project assignments is that student teams split into 2 sub-teams in which each sub-team uses a different modeling technique to analyze the same domain setting. After each sub-team has separately completed its own work, the two sub-teams then compare their results for the domain problem setting, and more importantly, contrast the strengths and limitations of the two modeling approaches based on their project experience.

What is learned from computer modeling? modeling modeling knowledge in an experimental study
In this poster, we present an experiment in computer modeling that compares two rather contrasting conditions: traditional teaching and inquiry modeling. The modeling preand posttest operationalized the segments of a modeling knowledge framework. The experimental group of modelers performed significantly better than the traditional group on the complex items. Surprisingly, no differences were f...
متن کاملTrain Scheduling Problem - Phase I: A General Simulation Modeling Framework
One of the important problems in management of railway systems is train scheduling problem. This is the problem of determining a timetable for a set of trains that do not violate infrastructure capacities and satisfies some operational constraints. In this study, a feasible timetable generator framework for stochastic simulation modeling is developed. The objective is to obtain a feasible tr...
متن کاملInstructional Experiences with Modeling and Analysis using the i* Framework
First year professional Master’s students at the Faculty of Information, University of Toronto are taught how to analyze problem domains using i* modeling in the final segment of the introductory course on “Systems Analysis and Process Innovation”. Over the past several years, the course instructors and teaching assistants have had the opportunity to observe and interact with the course student...
متن کاملکاربرد دو نظریه آموزشی در کلاس درس: نظریه ساخت گرا، نظریه یادگیری اجتماعی
Teaching is a complex phenomenon and needs a specific framework. Subjective ideas would dominate in the absence of a predetermined framework. Teaching and learning theories provide a systematic framework for instruction. This article describes "Constructivist and Social Learning Theories" and explains their applications in practice. The constructivist school views knowledge as a constructed ...
متن کاملTeaching Information Systems Development Through An Integrated Framework
This paper presents an evaluation of the framework SDDD through teaching information systems development module. The framework combined techniques from Soft Systems Methodology (SSM), the Unified Modelling Language (UML), and an implementation pattern. The evaluation is done to find the applicability of the framework as an approach for teaching and developing information systems. Feedback from ...
